This necklace is an inspired reproduction of a Mourning Victorian jewelry especially from the Mourning Whitby jet jewelry.
This black plastic necklace has a fantastic large pendant with Forget Me Not flowers in black color that hangs down. The pendant is a reproduction of an original Victorian Jet pendant from which I made a cast and later a copy. Made in Fakelite, resin.
Whitby Jet was the material of choice for mourning jewelery in the 1800s. during the Victoria Era flowers began to gain special meaning. It was during the Victorian era that flowers were given a long list of meanings and the language of flowers was born.
For the Victorians, Forget Me Nots were not simply a symbol of remembrance of someone who had passed away. They were specifically a symbol of true love and devotion.
